CHESS CLUB – In the after-school program, students have the opportunity to learn how to play chess, with the beginning of the class dedicated to some tips and the rest for games between the students, who currently total 16. The practice of chess, among many other activities, helps students to relax but also contributes to their ability to focus, concentrate, solve problems, and handle pressure within a time limit. Teacher Gui Maglio (responsible for the afterschool) shares that his practice was influenced during the pandemic when he played several online matches and has continued practicing since then. From this hobby, he saw an opportunity to teach the students at our school everything he had learned during this time. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Gui Maglio

COOKING – In the after-school program, children have the opportunity to learn how to prepare their own meals, allowing them to become more independent while encouraging them to be more creative and confident in the kitchen. The school’s culinary program is of vital importance due to the limited time available in today’s world, where it is necessary to practice and work quickly in the kitchen to be as efficient as possible and thus maintain a balanced and healthy life. Currently, the program has 40 participants dedicated to this art, almost reaching its limit of 48 students. According to Kiki, the school nutritionist and also the afterschool teacher, her professional career and passion for the culinary arts influenced her to start teaching this practice to our children. CHEERLEADER – In the after-school program, students experience cheerleading, which, in addition to involving gymnastics, also prepares them for competitions and for life. In the after-school, they learn to work in sync and as a team to perform stunts and difficult poses. Moreover, artistic gymnastics and cheerleading also participate in tournaments such as the Rancho (Little and Big 8), providing a life experience that most don’t have. Vic (the teacher) works with all grade levels and has noticed a lot of interaction between children and teenagers, highlighting the importance of her after-school program. SOCCER JV/VARSITY – In the after-school program, Bruno Davoli, along with Thiago, teaches soccer classes, training the main moves used in games. In many of the training sessions, new tactics and formations are developed with the entire team. In this team, there is no distinction between good and bad players, but rather a focus on determination in the sport. Besides staying active and maintaining their health, students also learn life lessons through the afterschool program, such as how to handle defeats, high expectations, and more. The afterschool program has no enrollment limit, and about 140 high school students are participating this semester. VOLLEY JV/VARSITY – In the after-school program, students can experience volleyball training, where they learn the techniques of the sport and also play games against each other. Like other sports, volleyball offers tournaments that athletes can compete in, such as the SPHSL (São Paulo High School League) and the Rancho (Little and Big 8). Practicing this sport contributes to students’ social, emotional, and cognitive skills, providing great opportunities for their lives. Rodrigo Gambareli (volleyball and basketball coach) shares that his childhood had a great influence on his decision to start teaching volleyball, as he played competitively from childhood through adulthood, which later became the source of strong friendships and life lessons. PEER TUTORING – In Peer Tutoring, created by students years ago and overseen by teacher Gabriela Denucci, older students with a desire to help volunteer to teach younger students who need assistance in any subject or help with studying for exams. This after-school program holds great importance in our community, providing opportunities for students who need extra help. Due to the lack of homework clubs on Wednesdays, this additional support becomes even more crucial, assisting students when teachers are unavailable. Every Wednesday, 15 junior and senior students are available to help those in need. Ms. Gabi created the club with her younger sister, who asked Gabi to be the club’s faculty advisor. Additionally, as she was already working in student support, Gabi says the club has become an “additional support I can count on and suggest to my students when they are struggling.” RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Gabriela Denucci
JUDO – In the after-school program, students learn the basics and advanced techniques of the Japanese martial art, Judo, and also practice with each other. The Judo classes are a method of physical education where students are able to train their cognitive and functional skills while also learning how to defend themselves. The Judo classes are for elementary students, with a maximum capacity of 25 students per grade. Rafael Borges, coach of both after-school programs, was influenced by his grandfather, who began practicing Judo and Jiu-Jitsu in 1943. Rafael is now the third generation in his family to teach martial arts. His interest in softball came from his daughter, who developed a passion for the sport and inspired coach Rafael to learn and specialize in it. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Rafael Borges
SOFTBALL – In the after-school program, students are taught the basic and advanced skills and plays of slow-pitch Softball. The slow-pitch Softball classes focus on the rules of the game, teaching students the techniques, strategies, and regulations. The Softball team also has the opportunity to participate in Rancho (Big 8). Softball classes are only available for upper school students, with a total capacity of 30 students. DRAMA – In the after-school program, they offer Theater classes, such as for elementary (Grades 3, 4, and 5) and also for middle school. Unlike other after-school activities in the school, the Drama program is offered throughout the whole year, and at the end of the year, a show is put on for the parents. The Drama after-school program gives students a chance to explore the artistic world, serving as a strong tool for their development and enhancing their communication skills. Each Drama class, from elementary to middle school, is full, with 20 students per class. Ms. Talitha, supervisor and teacher of the Drama program, has been involved in this type of work for 25 years. During this time, she has participated in many productions, both acting and directing. Ms. Talitha explains that above all, not only does she love the theatre world, but she is “passionate about the transformative power of Art!” RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Talitha
DJ CLUB – The DJ after-school program introduces students to the fundamentals of the DJ profession, including beat matching, musical styles like house music and rap, and the history of electronic music. Students learn to analyze songs by understanding the historical context of musical events, which serves as the foundation for creating quality mixes. Led by Mr. David, a passionate instructor who has a lifelong connection to music and experience as a DJ since the 90s, the program emphasizes not just technical skills but also the cultural and intellectual aspects of music. With 13 active participants, the group aims to develop skills that go beyond simply playing tracks, promoting creativity and rhythm awareness. Finally, the program also prepares students for public performances, such as the upcoming EAC Halloween party, and encourages anyone interested in music to join. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – David Mendes
MATH COUNTS – The Math Counts after-school program offers additional math classes where students have the chance to learn more advanced mathematics and participate in math tournaments. Participating in Math Counts gives students the opportunity to enhance their learning techniques and understanding of math, develop their social skills, and also improve their language skills. Math Counts is offered for both middle and high school, with 13 and 12 students respectively. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Arthur Braga
D&D – The Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) club offers students a chance to play the RPG board game Dungeons and Dragons, immersing themselves in the world of the game. In the after-school program, students can take their time to relax and have fun together with Mr. Braga. Students who participate in the club are able to improve their cultural knowledge, social skills, communication skills, and creative abilities. At the moment, the D&D club has just opened and is not full yet, but already has 5 students who meet every Monday to play together. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Arthur Braga
MUN – In the MUN after-school program, the participants engage in a meeting every Wednesday where students take on the role of international delegates in a simulation. In the after-school program, students focus on skills such as coordination, deliberation, and communication about global political issues. In the MUN group, there are around 35 participants, all prepared to discuss global problems and learn together. Mr. Jeremy Wilson, one of the teachers responsible for the club, says that the club is very relevant to students, helping them develop key skills such as communication, debating, and group work. ENTREPRENEURS CLUB – The entrepreneur club, directed by teacher Julia Rogano, has as its objective to teach kids the basics of business administration and development, all adapted to their age. During classes, there is a short lesson about the concepts being learned in the club. Every student has a Business Journal, where they take notes on their business ideas. Partaking in this club stimulates critical thinking in the kids, being a powerful tool, and helping students bloom as proactive citizens. It also further enhances their creative thinking, reasoning about what their business will be, how to differentiate from others, whether there are gaps in the market they can address, and other key ideas. Of the 12 available spots in the club, all are filled, making it a very sought-after club. Teacher Julia Rogano talks about her personal experience with entrepreneurship, having graduated from the International Commerce Administration program at PUC, and later working in the internationalization of small businesses. CODING – In the coding after-school program, teachers Laís Carvalho and Fernanda Rais teach the basics of programming to students. During Tuesday’s after-school sessions, 1st and 2nd graders attend classes where they use iPads and the program Scratch Jr. to learn the basics of programming. On a more advanced level, 3rd to 5th graders have coding classes on Thursdays, where they use Chromebooks and programs such as Scratch and Code.org to learn more advanced programming skills. With the rapid progress of technology in our society, programming is a key skill necessary for future jobs. Not only that, but learning coding also enhances students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Each class has a total capacity of 18 students, reaching a total of 33 students across grades 1 to 5. Teacher Laís Carvalho emphasizes the importance of teaching kids coding, educating them on how to follow clear instructions, and relating these abilities to communication skills, both in front of screens and in person. PILATES – The Pilates after-school, taught by teacher Gabriela Sersante, is a place where students can practice mat Pilates, train on mats, and use accessories such as exercise bands to enhance their training. Pilates is a low-impact exercise that suits children aged eight and up and can help them develop skills such as body awareness, posture, muscle strength, and coordination. Teaching kids from a young age helps with their future and makes it easier for them to stay healthy. The Pilates after-school program currently has 4 participating students and is waiting for you on the road to a better life. MB YOGA – In the MB Yoga after-school program (Mind-Body Yoga) led by teacher Mayra de Lima, students learn mind-body awareness, developing skills to manage their emotions and better understand their bodies. They familiarize themselves with different yoga positions, meditation techniques, stretching, and relaxation. MB Yoga helps students cultivate body awareness, breathing techniques, and flexibility, promoting healthy physical and mental habits. In total, the elementary and middle school classes have 6 students participating, enhancing both their physical and mental capacities. Teacher Mayra brings her personal experiences with yoga into the school, helping students relax and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Maysa de Lima
DEBATE CLUB – The debate club, led by senior Thiago Melega, provides students with the opportunity to debate political issues, such as migration and abortion, and their impact on the world. Students also aim to find a unanimous solution to these problems. The debate club allows students with differing opinions on various topics to discuss among themselves and understand each other’s points of view. It is also a great place for shy students to improve their communication skills and speak up. Currently, the debate club has 20 participants, with a maximum capacity of 30 slots in the program. Thiago Melega initiated this club after noticing how students in the MUN program enjoy debating smaller issues in a less structured format, giving him a head start in establishing the club. WRITING & READING CLUB – The writing club led by Natalia Machado and the writing club led by herself in the company of Ms. Julia are clubs where children discover the amazement of reading and gain the creativity of writing stories based purely on imagination. Bothy cluvsa re a aplace where children train their imagination and reading and writing capacities to the limit, contributing not only to their academic skills but also their knowledge. Currently, the writing club has 13 students who desire to put their imagination to the test, while the reading club has 20 students who enjoy navigating the fantastic world of literature. Ms. Natalia Machado highlights her passion for reading and writing since a long time ago, wishing to pass her passion onwards to kids whom she already teaches. RESPONSIBLE TEACHER – Natalia Machado
EAC ROCK BAND – The Rock Band after-school program allows students to explore rock and pop music by playing instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and singing. Meeting every Monday in the band room provides an alternative for those interested in making music beyond the traditional band class. Around 15 students take part on the rock band and prepare themselves to play on the upcoming concert at the end of each year. Mr. James Ryals, passionate about rock and pop music, enjoys sharing this musical medium with students at EAC and bring the best of each one with his classes.
EAC BAND AFTER-SCHOOL – The band elective after school is designed for students who want to participate in band class while taking other elective options in their curriculum. With no limit on participants, these activities help broaden elective choices, allowing more students to engage with music. Currently, there are 8 students involved. Also led by Mr. Ryals, who values the relaxing power of music, the program encourages as many students as possible to discover their own musical journey and learn new instruments.
