Everyone who has been here has at least once in their lifetime come across the beautiful laminated paper and posters our teachers have printed; however, did you know that it is handmade by Lúcia Góes? In this article, you will get to know more about her and her history here at EAC.

Lúcia was born in Minas Gerais, and at a very young age, she moved to the interior of São Paulo. At approximately 16-17 years old, she reached Campinas to work as a nanny for 9 years. It was there where her love story with Luís Carlos began, at that time, he already worked and lived at EAC. She had an aunt who worked in close proximity to the school, so she met him at the “pracinha”(Jd Flamboyant square) and they started dating. After 3 years of dating, they got married, and interestingly enough, their wedding party was here at the school at the elementary pavilion. It was then that she started living at EAC, where she was not yet employed.
Living around school, she did lots of things to help out. According to her, it was really nice to live in the same environment where she worked. Her son Leo started school here at the age of 4. Subsequently, Lúcia worked for a whole year as an assistant since, at that time, the school was having financial difficulties and they needed the mothers to be available to help. She stayed here helping at the school as a volunteer, she made food for the teachers and assisted by staying back with children, waiting for their mothers to pick them up well after school ended.
Finally, on the day she turned 40, the vacancy came up in Xerox, and the superintendent asked if she would like to be a permanent member of the staff at EAC. Soon, it will make 26 years that she has been working here, since 1998. In her eyes, working here is amazing, being able to help people in this extremely pleasant environment, and above all, having the opportunity to see all the children whom she has encountered throughout the years grow as individuals.

In Lúcia’s many years working here, she has witnessed plenty of changes that assisted the growth of the school. Several things have been modified through the years, for instance, due to the fact that previously there were fewer people studying here, that made the school in a way cozier, everyone was more like a society. In the old days, mothers helped out a lot at school, on Halloween they made pies, on game days they made Hot Dogs and sold them to raise money for Prom. Although some traditions have been lost, Lúcia believes these changes come with the development of the school.
As for the future of EAC, she thinks it is all about growth and everything will be in accordance with time, there is always the possibility of growing more, and with time, the school will continue to thrive.
If she had the opportunity to share something with EAC that she learned in her life, it would be to always participate, and give your best to everyone, in order for you to learn to share your environment with your peers. She works at the school with the greatest love in the world. More than half of her life, 40 years, was spent living and experiencing the development of the school. She says that we, as students, must value the school, that one day we will miss it here. “The people who pass by here, leave a lot of love and take it too, most of the school life is passed through these same corridors”. The union we form here we have for a lifetime. The student’s goal should be to carry what they learned here with them for the rest of their lives, not just academically, but through the relationships and friendships that were built here. She asks us not to forget them, she has a huge affection for the school and that everything she built and owns, she, her husband, and her son owe it to EAC. She is immensely proud to have worked at the school and grateful to have lived most of her life here in this beautiful community. “EAC é familia”, she says.
