8th Grade Field Trip: Cabreúva

by Sofia Sasse

On the 20th of September, our 8th graders will be making a trip to Cabreúva and Itu, both cities in the interior of the state of São Paulo. Their day will start at 8:15am, when the bus will be departing from EAC. One hour later, they will be at the Museu Aberto de Astronomia (MAAS), where they will engage in a variety of different activities, including a planetarium and a visit to their Atlas and Sun spaces. They will have access to the different technologies in place, such as instruments used to determine the chemical composition of our star, the Sun. They will also be able to observe different things about our natural satellite, the Moon, and visit their workshop where they conduct rocket experiments and launching. They will simulate different aspects of the launch process, using various recycled materials. Throughout these activities, a morning snack and lunch will be offered at the museum. At 3pm, they will leave and head to their hotel.

They will be staying at the Hotel Cabreúva, a resort that offers activities such as ziplining, pools, tennis, soccer, and basketball courts, a solarium, climbing equipment, and so much more! From 16:30pm until lights out, students will have full opportunity to enjoy these activities in the hotel itself.

The next day, our 8th grade students will have another adventure-packed day, leaving for Itu at 8:30 in the morning. It may seem early, but students will only arrive at Parque do Varvito at 9:30. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to nap on the way there. At the park, they will have the opportunity to see the formation of sedimentary rocks and the way our Earth’s geology was formed.

At night there will be a luau at the hotel. Don’t forget to bring bathing suits and towels!

In previous years, 8th graders have really enjoyed this field trip, and the hotel is a point of interest especially because of the amount of activities. We hope you enjoy your time there!
