How Might AI be Used in Real Life? What are the Pros and Cons?

Artificial intelligence, or AI, has gained popularity in recent years as a result of talks of how it can affect several facets of our life. It is a general word that covers a wide range of technologies and applications with the shared objective of giving robots intelligence akin to that of humans. Fundamentally, artificial intelligence (AI) includes computer systems simulating human thought processes in order to do activities that would otherwise require human involvement. AI comes in a variety of forms, from weak AI that is focused on just one task to strong AI that can compete with human intelligence and even super AI that is more intelligent than humans. “79% of employers use A.I. and/or automation for recruitment and hiring,” according to the Society of Human Resources Management. Thus, examining the ways in which professionals use AI in their daily lives reveals both its benefits and drawbacks.

Through the interview with Bruna Galante, an architect there could be more exploration about the use of AI in the professional world. She entered the College of Architecture at PUC Campinas in 2017 and graduated in 2021. Bruna works in an architecture office in Campinas, in the real estate area, so she does a lot of residential developments, such as apartment buildings, commercial buildings, and houses in condominiums as well. In addition, Bruna works with freelance work such as interior design and graphic design

In relation to artificial intelligence, she and the office that she works in are gradually initiating this contact. Generally, on a day-to-day basis, she uses Chat GPT for more specific things, such as writing more technical emails or ideas to add to presentations for the client. Sometimes our more technical look at writing terms, chat helps simplify writing. In addition to it, they are starting contact with another artificial tool called Midjourney, in which we managed to transform text descriptions into art or images.

Bruna is still in the process of understanding how to put it into the day-to-day activities of the office. Mainly in the 3D modeling architects do today, they spend a lot of time detailing and improving the concept. With this tool, she can express her idea and have a visual concept as a first idea, and from there we developed our project

Help people, if she is able to refine her own creative ideas, and she sees that there are human errors in the process, AI wouldn’t allow her to fail in certain points. However, it does not substitute the professional’s creativity because the architecture projects are developed based on the client’s preferences.

While AI has the potential to automate and optimize various tasks, it is important to note that it cannot completely replace humans in all areas. AI can replace humans in specific tasks involving repetitive, routine, or dangerous work, but there are certain areas where human intuition, creativity, and empathy are still indispensable. One of the key ways that AI can replace humans is through the automation of manual tasks. For example, robots and automated machines can be programmed to perform repetitive tasks in manufacturing, assembly lines, and logistics, which can reduce labor costs and increase efficiency. AI-powered chatbots and customer service assistants can also replace humans in answering routine queries and requests, allowing human operators to focus on more complex and high-value tasks.

However, there are also limitations to the scope of AI’s capabilities. AI is not yet capable of replicating human emotions, empathy, and intuition, which are crucial in fields such as healthcare, education, and social work. For example, while AI-powered diagnosis tools can help physicians identify potential diseases and conditions, they cannot replace the human touch in providing emotional support and guidance to patients.

On the positive side, AI has the ability to automate and optimize various tasks, resulting in increased efficiency and productivity. For example, AI-powered machines can help reduce labor costs and improve the accuracy of manufacturing processes. AI can also be used to improve decision-making processes by analyzing large amounts of data in real time. On the negative side, there are concerns about the impact of AI on employment, as automation can replace human workers in some industries. There are also concerns about the ethical implications of AI, such as the potential for biased decision-making and privacy violations. Additionally, there are concerns about the safety and security of AI systems, as they can be vulnerable to cyberattacks and other forms of exploitation. Overall, while AI has the potential to offer numerous benefits, it is important to approach its development and deployment with caution and awareness of its potential drawbacks.
