Review Van Gogh Exposition

The Van Gogh & Impressionistas exposition is taking place in the Dom Pedro Shopping in the Entrada das Flores until the end of April. It costs R$80,00 full price and R$40,00 half price. There are sessions every half hour. In this exposition, people can learn more about the works, history, and experience the art of Van Gogh. The experience joins technology with art and creates an immersion experience inside the works of the dutch painter.

When you first arrive in the exposition, there are dark hallways with mirrors at the end of them reflecting the famous works from Van Gogh that are represented in the walls of the hallways. After passing through the hallways, you enter a room with a mural and columns. The mural talks about the different paints from Van Gogh and the inspiration behind each one of them. While the columns tell the story about the life of the artists. Each column has the year and the important event which occurred in the life of Van Gogh. Finally, the spectators enter a gigantic room in which famous artworks from Van Gogh, like The Starry Night and Vase with Twelve Sunflowers, are being projected in the walls, ceiling, and floor. In that same environment, there is an entrance to a mini cinema where a movie about other impressionist artists (Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, and Gaugin) is being projected. At the end of the exposition, there is a sculpture of Van Gogh.

Even though the exposition does not possess the painting on canvas, the projection of the artworks and the use of light makes the spectators feel as if they were inside one of Van Gogh’s paintings. The experience provided is interactive and fun, since, to every place you look you see art. Dark backgrounds emphasize the colors of the paintings making the experience even more realistic. Besides, in the mini cinema session, the profiles of the artists are arranged as if they were social media profiles with photos of their paintings and hashtags. Apart from learning about the painters, the experience is worth visiting once the exposition shows Van Gogh’s works in a different perspective to the audience. The only thing is that it is a fast exposition, it takes less than half an hour to see all of it.
