Gambling games

Gambling games are games where winning or losing does not depend on your skills, but on your luck. These types of games are games of probabilities, which often end up being addictive and doing harm to the person’s psychology. These games are very common at parties, and places where people in vulnerable states are involved. But they are also played elsewhere. There are several types of games of chance, games that we often don’t even think can be considered these types of games. For example, the lottery, or betting, cakes and etc. Even though these types of entertainment are banned in many places, they continue to take place in clandestine forms. The debate about banning these games has come to the fore again. During the pandemic, the time people spent online increased dramatically, which caused new games to emerge which caused gambling to start to become more popular online. Then people started a discussion about releasing all kinds of gambling.

Countries such as Japan, China, Brazil, Belgium and the Netherlands have decided to make these games illegal, and so they must remain. Gambling causes many problems for our society. They are games that cause addictions, psychological problems, expenses, among others. The target audience for these games are vulnerable people. People who already have some kind of problem, and who are looking for ways to discount these conflicts that they go through. Citizens who live with anxiety, depression, addictions and other mental health problems. These people often take their problems out on these types of games, and become addicted, which only worsens their mental state. According to Hospital Santa Mônica, “gaming affects about 1% of the Brazilian population”. When we look at this number, it seems small, but this 1% of the Brazilian population is equivalent to more or less 2 million addicts. become dependent on games, and play them out of sheer compulsiveness. Addiction and compulsiveness are so great that the World Health Organization has placed gambling on the side of addiction to alcohol, cocaine and other drugs. That is, games can be just as bad as these other elements.

This dangerous entertainment not only causes mental conflicts but also generates a lot of expense. As mentioned before, people from more sensitive and vulnerable groups play compulsively, that is, they have no limits. These games are not free, quite the contrary, they are expensive and often lead people to lose money, and sometimes even bankruptcy. This conflict goes far beyond whether games are expensive or cheap, that’s a big factor. But many times players end up focusing so much on the games that they end up forgetting or failing to care about their personal lives. So many times they miss appointments, meetings, and all of this leads to being fired or leaving work accumulated. Which drastically affects their financial life.

Putting all these factors together, we can see how bad and dangerous this type of entertainment can be, and the amount of problems they lead to players’ lives. Banning gambling will not solve the problem 100%, as unfortunately gambling sometimes happens clandestinely. But gambling should remain illegal. Because that would make people less exposed to games, games would happen which would make our citizens safer and save them from various types of conflicts.
