Protests all over Iran strike, after a young woman is beaten to death

It is widely known that Iran has strict cultural policies, ranging from women being forced to wear hijabs to not burping in front of people as a sign of respect. The main symbol of oppression has spread a wrong impression on the Muslim people. A hijab is a head covering made of fine cloth that covers the neck, hair, and head, leaving only the face exposed. Although the consequences of not wearing this kind of clothing can range from a fine, all the way to a prison sentence, it is sure to be punished. But recently, protests against this form of oppression against women have skyrocketed since recent cases of extreme aggression as punishment have risen. A new case has shocked the world after a young 22-year-old woman was beaten to death for not properly wearing a hijab by the moral police in Iran.

Mahsa Amini was arrested in the city of Tehran, on the 16th of September for  wearing her hijab too loose and disrespected the Muslim teachings. She was apparently traveling with her family when she was arrested in the streets and  taken into a police van where officers proceeded to intensely beat her. After her death was announced, the Iranian government claimed it was due to a heart attack.

The death had  global repercussions, where many countries from the United Nations condemned the assassination. At least 46 cities Iran have witnessed protests. The protests have been quite deadly, resulting in the death of 41 people. The way of dealing with the protests was to arrest the protestors, more than 1200 protestors have already been taken to prison. The external relationships department of Iran has invited the British ambassador, on the 25th of September. The purpose was to protest against the media, which apparently manipulated the information to create a negative appeal to Iran. The government also criticized the actions of local news, inviting the Norwegian ambassador to protest against the recent speeches of  Masud Gharahkhani, the president of the Norwegian Parliament.

Overall, the death has caused a worldwide repercussion, causing people to start questioning even more the usage of the hijab as a symbol of oppression. Although, efforts have been made to change this strict tradition, it is quite difficult to change the way the Iranian government approaches the cultural and religious traditions.
