Charlie Brown Jr.

Alexandre Magno Abro, a Brazilian singer known by his stage name “Chorão”, was an incredible songwriter, skateboarder, filmmaker, and screenwriter. Charlie Brown Jr.’s story is about struggle, perseverance, and faith. Chorão had a rough childhood, when he turned 11 years old his parents got divorced, and he began living on the street. With that, he ended up dropping out of school in the seventh grade. In the middle of this sad, abandoned, and hopeless life on the street, he ended up discovering one of his greatest passions; skateboarding.

In 1992, Chorao’s band came to rise, playing incredible Brazilian rock music. The band members were Chorão, Champignon, Marcão Britto, Thiago Castanho and Renato Pelado. Their songs mainly talked about skateboarding, girlfriends, and financial issues. The band published eleven albums, three live albums, and seven DVDs and sold over five million copies worldwide. The band was named Charlie Brown after Chorão ran over a coconut water stall with the Charlie Brown character design. This eccentric story for the band’s name was one of the reasons why they were so successful.

“Só os Loucos Sabem” was one of their most well-known songs. The music was created by Chorão and featured the band’s guitarist, Thiago Castanho, and was published in 2009. A 3:30 minute composition that affected the lives of millions of people. It is considered one of the ten best songs of the century in Brazil by Rolling Stones magazine. Over 50,000 copies were sold, and Charlie Brown Jr. earned a gold record for this song, making the band earn a platinum record to hang on the wall. “Só os Loucos Sabem” is a song that will inspire you to keep going and accomplish your goals in spite of what other people may think.                                   

March 6, 2013. The day Brazil was shocked after Chorão was found dead in his residence in São Paulo. The 43-year-old main vocalist of Charlie Brown Jr overdosed on cocaine. His death shocked millions of people, no one could believe this tragedy. He was so young, so talented, with an extraordinary voice and imagination, impacting his country immensely and continuing to inspire others even subsequent to his passing.
