Goes Family: Generational Giants

We all have had Leo fix our computer whenever there was any trouble with it, or had Luis Carlos walk into our classrooms mid lesson to fix the projector or a problem with the air conditioning, but very few people know these both have been part of the EAC community for generations and are no strangers to our school. Read along to find out the story of these two and know their life long ties to EAC.

The Beginning

The story of the Goes family is an extensive one, with countless stories to tell and memories lived, but their relationship with EAC only came to be in 1960. A few years prior, Luiz Carlos’ father had been hired by the previous owner of the land who took care of a farm here. The son of the owner unfortunately was part of a tragic motorcycle accident where he sadly passed away, causing great despair for all of those in the farm. Time had passed and the owner was extremely unmotivated with life, eventually giving up on his farm and putting it up for sale. In the first year of the 1960s, the land was bought by the company 3M with the intention of founding a school with the American educational method for their many international employees. With this, most of the previous workers from the farm were sent away, but a special request from the once farm owner was that 3M should maintain Luiz Carlos’ father here, since he was a dedicated worker, a person with a work ethic that is seen only once in a lifetime.

New Generations

As the decades came and went, our beloved Luiz Carlos came to life in our very own campus, starting a lifelong friendship between person and environment. Luiz Carlos studied here for most of his life. At a certain point in his highschool career, Luiz even received a full scholarship to study at EAC, coming directly from the minister of education of the United States, but sadly, he wasn’t able to utilize it since he had been recruited for the army, losing his final years as a Giant. A few years later, Luiz Carlos was dispensed from the Brazilian military and found himself without a source of income. EAC, realizing this, offered for him  to do small, quick tasks around the campus for a portion of money, doing things like changing light bulbs, fixing machinery, and other tiny jobs. As the months went, he eventually got himself an official job as a maintenance worker here at EAC, once again becoming a giant. As he gained experience, he eventually rose to his current position of maintenance manager. And finally years later, our dear Leo was born, starting once again the giant cycle of the Goes family, going from student to employee and so on.

What differentiates EAC from everywhere else?

When asked how our community is different from all others, both Leo and Luiz reached an interesting and heart-warming consensus. In the words of Luiz “There is no place like EAC. I feel nothing but gratitude for this school.” and Leo went on to add “Here will always be like home. You can leave here and come back 10 years from now and the homely feeling wouldn’t change.”

Through the lives of these two highly valued people from our community, we not only get to see how memorable they are, but we also take notice of our principles throughout the years and how our communities are so united that there are generations of families established here, considering it as one of their homes.

As Giants, it’s important that we know about the important figures that coexist with us and how they impact not only our lives today but also how they have affected our history, giving light to the rich past that EAC has.
