Then and Now: Giant Spirit

It’s not a surprise that EAC has had a successful past in terms of sports. We have tried hard to build up a community that encourages and cultivates a passion for sports like basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

After talking to Helena Castilho, who was an alumni at EAC when she was a kid, and is now a counselor, it was clear that the passion for the activities has been present even before 1996. Helena herself had an athletic career, being part of the basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams from JV(JUNIOR VARSITY) in middle school and through to the high school varsity team. It was a factor that she and many other students had in common.

In the years nearing 2000, the school didn’t have as many afterschool activities as we have today, so the sports had a certain shine that captured students’ attention.

Helena mentioned that until today, she feels the students in our school have so much pleasure in participating in our school’s sports. Tournaments like the Little 8 League and even Rancho are big parts of our community today.

“In our victories, we celebrate and in our losses, we hold our heads high because we give it our all.”

This is all part of how we encourage our students, from elementary school to high school, to play as many sports as possible and truly participate in those that we enjoy.

Today, EAC offers 5 main athletic activities at school: soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and futsal. Teachers and staff are constantly trying to create new clubs and activities to reach different students’ likes and dislikes. But for those extra curricular activities to succeed, we need help from the whole EAC community. Go Giants!
